On December 4, families joined us for a workshop designed to help them understand how special education services work and what to expect throughout the IEP process. Attendees learned about key terms, timelines, their rights as a parent or guardian, and how to partner effectively with their child’s school team to support their success. 

Join us for our Parent U event designed to assist students and families with the FAFSA application process on Wednesday, November 19, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Deering High School. Financial experts from FAME, Financial Assistance of Maine, along with our school guidance counselors and Make It Happen site coordinators will be on site to help navigate the FAFSA process. Interpretation services will be provided.

Eighth-Grade Families were invited to join the virtual discussion about the three high school options — Casco Bay High School, Deering High School and Portland High School — on Monday, September 29.

Join us for our College Information Night on Wednesday, October 8, from 6:00-7:30 PM! This event is designed to assist high school students and their parents/guardians in understanding and planning for the different college options after high school. Come learn all about the college application process!

On September 16 Parent U held a session all about the Portland Public Schools’ new Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum. Joanna Frankel, Director of Elementary Culture and Climate, led the discussion on how the new SEL curriculum is integral to the Strategic Plan, and the strategy our staff uses to ensure that all students feel safe, supported and prepared to manage relationships and emotions effectively.
